WHAT IS SHIATSU ?
Originally from Japan, Shiatsu is considered an art sensitive treatment of the body provided with the help of mostly the thumbs and hands of the practionner (Shi: finger, Atsu: pressure). this art is part of a medicine in its own right and recognized since the beginning of the 20th century. Shiatsu evolved a lot in the 60s and 70s thanks to Shizuto Masunaga (founder of Iokai school) who developped his own style, the Zen Shiatsu, based on traditional Japanese Shiatsu, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and zen phylosophie which relies in particular on texts ancient (Su Wen, Ling Shu).
Shiatsu is finally close to acupuncture but using the hands, the thenar, the thumb and sometimes the elbows. And it applies to the whole meridian and not focused on acupuncture points. In the
West, Shiatsu does not have the recognition as in Japan but it evolves little by little. For example, in Switzerland and Germany this discipline is recognized as therapy. In 2015 in France, an union was created to have this discipline recognized (SPS).
Shiatsu is a holistic approach on all 12 main meridians and 8 curious vessels and aims to balance them for optimal health. Our energy body has a great ability to balance itself, but sometimes following life trauma, the
practitioner must intervene to allow the body to recover this ability to self-balance. An imbalance will provoke more or less long-term disease at more or less advanced stages. Hence the importance of being followed by a practitioner specializing in energy.

SHIATSU SESSION
The duration of a Shiatsu session is approximately one hour (each session being adapted to the receiver, so the duration may vary). The first session lasts longer than the others because it begins with a holistic diagnosis following the four shins. Shiatsu is played on a futon. The patient can be placed in 4 different positions: sitting, on theback, on the stomach or in a lateral position. The patient (Jusha) must have a suitable outfit: have a T-Shirt (long or short sleeves) and enough ample pants to allow the practitioner to do movements of Jusha's legs without constraint. In addition the material must be natural (cotton, linen) and not nylon or silk that will prevent a stable pressure of the fingers (risk of slipping). It is above all an exchange between the patient and the practitioner, especially at the energy level(from Ki to Ki). It is therefore important to be attentive throughout the session, in order to create aunity. It is this last one which makes it possible to understand the energy stagnations in order tobetter rebalance them. At the end of the session, I also provide advice adapted to the symptom (s) of the patient: self-stretching exercises (DO-IN), breathing exercises, nutrition advice, activities tailored to each ... This support aims to make the patient autonomous and active in his own evolution.
